    FAQ: Single, twin-share and more

    What is twin-share, triple-share and quad-share?

The share-basis is about accommodation pricing. It does not mean that you share a room with a stranger.

"Twin-share" is where two people occupy a hotel room (open-plan style) or other accommodation such as an apartment, usually a couple or two friends. This is the normal way accommodation is priced. The price is shared between two people. Most accommodation properties (eg. hotels) offer rooms with king, queen or double beds. Most offer the option of "twin" beds as well which actually means two single beds to accommodate singles sharing, couples wanting space and so-on.

"Triple share" is where three people occupy the accommodation and share the price. "Quad-share" is where four people occupy the accommodation and share the price. Family apartments and hotel rooms usually include a king, queen or double bed and one or more single beds to handle triple and quad-share arrangements. Sometimes other bedding configurations are available as well.

    What is a seasonal adjustment?

Some accommodation providers, especially in very popular holiday locations, have higher room rates for busy holiday periods (usually spring and summer holidays). We must make an allowance for those price variations if applicable.

    What is a single supplement?

A "single supplement" applies to single travellers who want a room to themselves. Because the price is not shared, a "single supplement" applies. This additional amount is based on the single covering the entire accommodation component of the trip that would normally be split between two or more people.

    * All prices and payments are in New Zealand dollars (NZD). Currency conversions are estimated only. Prices are per-person on a twin-share basis unless stated otherwise and bookings are subject to availability. Price and deposit amount varies according to travel date. All prices are estimates only. A firm quote (travel plan) with payment terms will be submitted for consideration prior to agreement to proceed. Full booking terms and conditions are available here.

    DAY 4
    WANAKA

    About today:

    Explore Wanaka

Get out and explore the great outdoors

Today is a great day to do some hiking. The recommended trips are: Mt Iron, which takes around 1.5 hours at a distance of 4.5km, or Roy's Peak, which takes around 5-6 hours, covering a distance of 11kms and requires a good fitness level as the track is quite steep.

Mount Iron is an impressive, glacier-carved, 240-metre rocky knoll (a roche moutonnnee). From its summit a great panorama unfolds: Lakes Wanaka and Hawea, the Cardrona and Upper Clutha Valleys and all the surrounding peaks; many of them in Mount Aspiring National Park in the west.

Roy's Peak track begins by zigzagging along a steep 4WD track from the carpark to the conservation area. From there, continue on through wild tussock grasslands until you reach Roy's Peak summit. Along the way, take time to enjoy the spectacular views from the ridgeline, which take in most of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding peaks, including Mount Aspiring.

In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and be rewarded as we conquer the highest waterfall cable climb in the world together. With 3 difficulties, ranging from 150m to 450m climbs, you can find one that best suits your sense of adventure.

If you prefer a more relaxed way to spend your afternoon, enjoy the views around Wanaka on horseback. Ride through working stations and see farming in the high country first-hand.

    DAY 5
WANAKA - FRANZ JOSEF (2 NIGHTS)

Franz Josef is the name of both the glacier and the nearby village; the small but lively Franz Josef Waiau village is surrounded by lush rainforest with the high snow-capped Alps above. The glacier itself descends into the lush native rainforest and is home to truly incredible features such as ice caves, tunnels, seracs and crevasses.

    About today:

Have fun in the snow in Franz Josef

Set your sights on the snowy peaks of Franz Josef

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, it is time to depart from Wanaka. Our main destination for the day is the snowy escape of Franz Josef, however a detour will be made to the town of Haast. Take your time exploring the area, the region so spectacular that UNESCO awarded it the status of being a "World Heritage" area.

In Haast you will have some time to refuel with lunch and explore the surrounds. An optional jet boating experience is available for you to take and is a great way to get a taste of the town.

Upon arrival to Franz Josef, check-in to your accommodation and embark on an optional sunset helicopter ride. See what most people never get the chance to and journey into the largely inaccessible heart of the majestic Southern Alps. Explore the ice falls and experience a snow landing and explore before returning to Franz Josef township.

Christchurch is one of the world's most unique destinations, combining urban regeneration and innovation with heritage, culture and exhilarating activity.

    About today:

    Explore Hikitika Gorge

    Say Kia Ora to Christchurch

There is a lot of driving ahead of you today as you embark on the journey to Christchurch. A couple of detours will be made to break up the journey. The first is in Hokitika; with untamed natural wilderness, genuine experiences and friendly characters that love to share a story, Hokitika is the perfect place to appreciate the fascinating history of the West Coast.

While you are here, visit the iconic Hokitika driftwood sign on Hokitika Beach before embarking on a short 15 minute walk to Hokitika Gorge. With the greenery of the surrounding native forest, the stunning turquoise waters of the Hokitika River, the rugged rock formations at its banks and an amazing swing bridge, it is an unmissable experience.

Returning to the road, your next stop will be in Lake Pearson. A large and attractive hourglass-shaped lake located in the High Country, the area is a great spot for fishing, bird watching and presents a photogenic landscape for keen photographers. Lake Pearson is also close to the large grey limestone boulders that are part of Castle Hill, a landscape that features heavily in the Lord of the Rings movies.

The last leg of your journey is only 1 and a half hours long. Upon arrival to Christchurch, check-in to the accommodation and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring at your own pace. If you're itching for more adventure, an optional Bungee Jumping experience in Hanmer Springs is available in the afternoon.
